Kitchen projects by Miami Architects, United Architects

Some of the work we do is detail work - maybe it's a bathroom or a kitchen.  All of our projects are important to us, no matter how small.  Unlike kitchen cabinet shops who only work with you when you buy from them, we can work with any shop to make sure that you are getting what you really envisioned, what you need, and what is most practical and beautiful for you.

We can take dimensions, meet with you, and come up with a floor plan and the elevations of the cabinetry to establish the initial design criteria.  Then, once the priliminary design is done, we can accompany you to any shop, whether it is a local shop, Home Depot or Lowe's.  There we can work out the details with the cabinetmaker.  Or maybe you want us to go with you to several shops to compare prices.  We can do that as well.

In addition, we can also pick out flooring and backsplash materials that will look best with the cabinetry.  We can help you decide on the hardware that you want to use.  No detail is too small to be ignored.  From start to finish we will work with you to get the best design for the budget that you establish.  We are not just kitchen designers in Miami.  We are architects so we can make sure that your kitchen works with the rest of your house.

Kitchen Design in Miami

Here in the design above, one of the walls was a floor to ceiling pantry cabinet.  This cabinet is very functional for purely storage purposes.  It is important to see what are the needs to the client and determine the ratio of counterspace to cabinet.  Some clients may need more of one than the other.

Early on we need to determine who is going to cook and how:

  • Is the kitchen going to be used everyday?
  • Is company going to be allowed in the kitchen
  • Or is the kitchen going to be used just for warming in the microwave?
  • How many people are going to be in the kitchen at one time?

All these questions and more need to be answered before an appropriate kitchen design can be visualized.

Today, there are many styles of cabinets including multi-color cabinets.  In this house, there were two colors: white and a Cherry wood grain.  It makes for a nice combination.

The owner of the house was a gourmet cook
and he was very interested in having a well
designed, functional, and comfortable kitchen.

Notice that one side of the island is part of the functional triangle, but two of the sides are strictly for storage.

Another important issue in the design of a kitchen is lighting.  In this kitchen because of the number and height of the windows, the
kitchen does not need a great deal of artificial light during the day.

There are some basic design guidelines for kitchen design.

Good kitchens are designed using a triangle between the refrigerator, the sink, and the oven/range.

The triangle should have each leg between no less than 4'-0" and no more than 9'-0".

If there is an island, the island should not be in the way of the triangle.

For the best removal of fumes, the exhaust above the range should exhaust to the outside.

Today, when most people use a dishwasher, and large pots are difficult to maneuver in a double bowl sink, the single bowl, large sink has become very popular.
